Blackmagic Intensity, Flash Media Encoder, and a Playstation 3.
Starting out, please ensure that you have installed the correct and latest drivers for the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card. Also from the Playstation 3, the HDMI can not be captured. You must have a Playstation 3 Component Cable. A simple $5 unofficial cable works just as well as the $30 official. This tutorial is going to assume you are running Windows, and that the PS3 has been set up for use at 720p.
After installing the Blackmagic drivers, Open up Control Panel, then the Intensity item.
Within the options, select from the Set Input dropdown, select Y, R-Y, B-Y Video & Analog RCA Audio setting.
Also select the Input Processing dropdown and select “720p HD to SD Letterbox 16:9” and select OK. On Vista, just allow the UAC popup.
Now open up the Media Express application. Then go to Edit > Preferences.
From the Video Format dropdown, select “HD 720p 60”.
Now you’re ready to start with Flash Media Encoder. You must be on Version 3, because the program does not communicate using 2.5.
Download your Ustream.tv FME profile from your Show page, then open it in FME3. It will now throw up an error saying the Video Bitrate or Frame Size is not supported. Discard this error and continue.
Using your Ustream profile as a template, change the Frame-rate to 29.97, and the Input size to 720x486. If all went well, you should now see your PS3 in the Input and Output windows. Now because FME interprets this stream as 480i, it will interlace on the stream, but you wont notice it on the preview due to the stable frame-rate and lack of scaling. Simply check the “De-interlace” setting, and that will solve the issue.
There is still a limitation on FME in regards to the Audio preferences. It will NOT receive the audio from the Decklink Audio Capture. You must relay the RCA Output from the PS3 to the Mic or Line port on your Sound Card or capture using a USB RCA Capture device. I simply routed my output through a mixer, then into the system’s Mic. You can however, use a simple 2xRCA adapter to Stereo Mini-jack converter. These should be easily obtainable from a local hardware shop for about 2-5 bucks. I chose the mixer option because it was already hooked up to the system.
Once you have Audio set up, hit the Start button, then go to your broadcast station and start streaming the beautiful direct output down-sampled from HD.
Happy Streaming!
